At Butterworth Laboratories, we are committed to minimising our environmental impact and promoting sustainable practices across all aspects of our operations. We continuously strive to improve our processes to conserve energy, water, and natural resources while reducing waste and emissions.
Key initiatives in our sustainability strategy include:
- Energy & Resource Conservation – Actively reducing our energy and water consumption to lower our carbon footprint.
- Waste Reduction & Recycling – Utilising appropriate recycling programs to minimise landfill waste, implementing a Paperless Reporting initiative in collaboration with clients, and encouraging staff to limit the printing of documents.
- Chemical Usage Optimisation – Working to decrease the volume of chemicals used in our laboratories without compromising quality and safety.
Sustainability is a shared responsibility, and we encourage all staff to contribute ideas and initiatives that help us achieve these goals. We have also set up a Green Team of interested Staff, including Managers. Through collective efforts, we aim to create a more sustainable future for our business, community, and the environment.
To monitor our progress in this area, we use the EcoVadis assessment platform, which rates businesses’ sustainability based on four key categories: environmental impact, labour, human rights standards, ethics, and procurement practices. We also use their Carbon Estimator, a tool aligned with the GHG Protocol, to estimate our Scope 1, 2, and 3 GHG emissions.
