Spectroscopy
The various spectrometric techniques available, and the type of information they provide, are listed below.
Atomic Spectroscopy
- ICP-OES Inductively Coupled Plasma - Optical Emission Spectroscopy
Qualitative and quantitative determination of metals and certain non-metallic elements, largely as minor or trace constituents. Two torches are available allowing the analysis of aqueous and solvent based solutions.
- AAS Atomic Absorption Spectroscopy
Quantitative determination of metals, largely as minor or trace constituents. The instrumentation available allows analysis by flame absorption, flame emission and graphite furnace.
Molecular Spectroscopy
- FTIR Fourier Transform Infra Red Spectroscopy
Identification and structural analysis of organic compounds.
- UV/VIS Ultra-Violet/Visible Spectroscopy
Identification and quantitative determination of elements and compounds, mainly as trace and minor constituents.
- Fluorimetry
Following radiation in the ultraviolet region of the spectrum, some complex organic molecules fluoresce. Fluorimetry, the measurement of this radiation, provides a very sensitive and selective means of quantitative analysis.
