Health & Safety
Formal testing for Health & Safety at Work Legislation
Using Occupational Exposure Limits (OELs, published annually in "EH40") for hazardous substances at work, set by the Health and Safety Executive (HSE), Butterworth Laboratories undertake Work Place Atmosphere Testing to help you comply with the ever increasing and demanding Health and Safety Regulations, such as COSHH and Risk Assessments.
Using our comprehensive range of techniques, we can analyse your laboratory equipment to ensure that workplace atmospheres are within the safety limits required by EH40 or Material Safety Data Sheet requirements.
All methods employed are based on published methods such as the MDHS, OSHA or NIOSH, using our expertise as analytical chemists to develop and validate the new methodology required.
Consumer Safety testing
Butterworth's extensive experience in Quality Control of manufactured products also involves consumer safety testing for various substances. For example:
- Lead and cadmium in glass and ceramics
- Paper, paints, varnishes and other components used in toys for extractable metals
- Jewellery for Nickel content
- CFC's in Aerosol products
- Cosmetics formulations for 26 listed allergens
This experience has now been extended to include ingredients testing, ensuring that label claims are correct for a wide range of products, particularly allergens in cosmetic products.
