Analytical Chemist

Candidates should have a good degree from a UK University which contains a high percentage of Analytical Chemistry.

They should have several years work experience, preferably in a GLP/GMP Laboratory, of pharmaceutical and general analytical chemistry. The experience should be 'hands-on' with the ability to discuss the fundamental chemical reactions involved and to be able to offer troubleshooting skills when methods or techniques do not work as expected.

Vacancies exist in both the Chromatography Section where experience should include Practical experience of Instrumental techniques such as: HPLC, GC, GC/MS, GC/HS, IC, etc. and the Classical Wet Chemistry Section where Instrumental techniques such as ICP, AAS with graphite furnace, Karl Fischer, FTIR, UV/Vis,. are also used regularly in addition to Colorimetry, Titrimetry and Gravimetry. Both sections require analysts with experience of working to Pharmacopoeia and other validated methodologies

As a lot of the work is non-routine it requires the ability to assess methods for their suitability and to identify possible problems. To also troubleshoot when problems occur and to be able to work under pressure when deadlines have to be met.

The ability and willingness to handle different types of analysis as required and to learn other techniques is essential. Full training would be given and a personal Training Record maintained.

Candidates should be interested in business principles particularly as applied to the costing of the various type of work and to understand how a business operates. The Company needs to meet strict deadlines and all staff are expected to agree to work overtime at weekends or in the evenings if necessary.

Overall there needs to be enthusiasm and a thorough interest in both the scientific work and the progress of the Company.

These positions offer competitive salaries, a bonus system and good benefits.
