Butterworth are becoming increasingly involved in a sector closely associated with the pharmaceutical industry called Health Care & Beauty. Business types within this sector vary from the production of medical devices and wound management treatments, to the supply of OTC medicines, personal hygiene products, cosmetics and toiletries.

Projects undertaken for companies in this sector include:

• The determination of residual ethylene oxide released from medical devices to BS EN ISO 10993- 7:1996 and ANSI/AAMI/ISO 10993-7:1995
• The development of a method to determine ppt levels of histamine by HPLC
• Development of a GC-MS-MS method for the analysis of the 26 listed allergens listed in the revised cosmetic product regulations to take effect in 2005
